“Blockbuster Hits ‘Thudarum’ and ‘Tourist Family’ Delay OTT Releases Amidst Theatrical Triumphs”

Two recent South Indian films, Thudarum and Tourist Family, have achieved remarkable box office success, leading to delays in their anticipated OTT releases. Both films continue to draw audiences to theaters, prompting producers to postpone their digital premieres.

Thudarum, a Malayalam thriller starring Mohanlal and directed by Tharun Moorthy, was released on April 25, 2025. The film has garnered widespread acclaim and has become one of the fastest Malayalam films to cross the ₹100 crore mark globally, achieving this milestone within six days of its release. As of May 22, 2025, Thudarum has grossed over ₹116.5 crore net in India and continues to perform strongly at the box office. The film’s success has prompted the producers to delay its OTT release on JioHotstar, originally scheduled for May 25, to early June, allowing for an extended theatrical run.

Similarly, Tourist Family, a Tamil comedy-drama featuring Sasikumar and Simran, directed by Abishan Jeevinth, was released on May 1, 2025. The film has been well-received for its heartfelt storytelling and performances, grossing approximately ₹75 crore worldwide. Initially set to premiere on JioHotstar on May 30, the OTT release has been postponed to early June to capitalize on its ongoing theatrical success.

Both films are currently exclusive to theaters, with their OTT releases on JioHotstar anticipated in early June. Fans eager to watch them digitally will need to wait a bit longer as the films continue to draw audiences in cinemas.
